Daily Schedule and Calendar for the 24/25 School Year
Monday - Thursday 8:50 am - 4:20 pm & Friday 8:50 am - 1:30 pm
The DGS calendar is slightly different from the district calendar for days off this year.
Dismissal/End of the School Day
Parents are responsible for making arrangements so their children are appropriately taken care of at dismissal each day. Parents need to inform classroom teachers about how student pick-up will be handled. (I.e. babysitter picks up student; student goes home by herself, etc).
Students are expected to be picked up or leave the school premises immediately following dismissal.
If your student is normally on the bus and will not be that day or if there are any other changes in the dismissal routine you must notify the office by 12:30pm Monday-Thursday and 11:00am on Fridays. To ensure the safety of all students we will only be taking valid emergency notifications after that time. The office will communicate to teachers and students; all parent notifications must go through the main office. To minimize discrepancies please do not send the message with your student or through the teacher please call the main office. There is no student pick up between 3:45-4:20 Monday-Thursday and 1:00-1:30 Fridays. Please come earlier if you can’t wait until 4:20
Students will not be able to loiter in the hallways, they will need to get to their after school program or leave the premises. Please Note: Students will only be dismissed early to a guardian or someone listed on the emergency contact sheet that arrives in person for pick up only — NO exceptions will be made.
Late Pick-Up: All students must be picked up at dismissal time, no exceptions. In case of an emergency leading to an inability to pick up your student, you must call the main office. Teachers will bring students who have not been picked up to the main office. When a student is not picked up within 15 mins after dismissal the following steps will occur:
First Occurrence: Warning letter given and conversation with a Lead Partner
Second Occurrence: $25 fee per student will be assessed
Third Occurrence: $25 fee per student will be assessed and the Denver Public Schools Department of Safety will be notified.
CHANGES IN STUDENT TRANSPORTATION ARRANGEMENTS
Should you need to change transportation arrangements, a parent or guardian must call the office by 12:30 PM indicating the change in his/her transportation home. We cannot accept changes after specified times as this does not allow us to provide maximum safety measure for students.
EARLY STUDENT PICK-UP
Check in at the front office no exceptions. We will not call your student out of class after 3:45 PM Monday-Thursday & 1:00 on Fridays. After 3:45 PM you will need to wait and pick up your student at the assigned pick-up location:
Kindergarten - Outside playground doors by Kinder classrooms
1st Grade - Outside classroom doors (Ms. Colunga in the garden | Ms. Gunderson west side of the building on Niagara St.)
2nd & 3rd Grades - same as drop off
4th & 5th Grades - same as drop off
6th - 8th Grades - Middle School Students are released from the classroom so plan a pick up location that works safely for them.
DGS Dress Code
DGS strives to maintain an environment that is safe for all students and is conducive to learning. In order to enhance the learning environment DGS has developed a dress code. There is not a traditional uniform; however, all students are expected to follow these clothing regulations:
Hoods should not be worn while in the building
No bare midriffs when arms are raised.
Elementary students cannot wear hats in the building.
No T-shirts that have inappropriate logos, etc.
No opened-toed shoes
Student Fees
Student Activity Fee for 2024-2025
$75.00 for Kinder-3rd grade
$100 for 4th-8th grade
This money goes toward classroom needs and excursions
Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
The use of cellular phones and non-DGS electronic devices is PROHIBITED during school hours. Students are permitted to use their cell phones before or after school to arrange for transportation or communicate with family members. Students that bring cellphones to school should ensure they are off while in the building and stored where they cannot be seen (i.e. backpack, pocket, etc.). Students that are using cell phones inappropriately or have cell phones out during class will be asked to put it away by a staff member. Students that refuse to comply with this request will have their cell phone confiscated for the school day. Repeat offenses will have cell phones confiscated for longer periods of time. Parents will then need to call the office to schedule an appointment to retrieve confiscated items. DGS is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
In the event of a necessary absence, a parent/guardian must call the attendance line and report the absence by 9:00 a.m. Include student’s name, date of absence, reason for absence and parent/guardian contact number. This notification does not automatically excuse the absence.
Doctor visits or other circumstances require a note from them detailing the time to be excused, reason for leaving, and approximate time of return. The student will be excused from class and may leave class when the parent/guardian arrives at the office.
Upon return, the student must provide a doctor’s note verifying the appointment. Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule appointments to the greatest degree possible outside of the school day in order to minimize academic impact.
Excused Absences:
Illness: fever, contagious disease, illness rendering student to bed rest (Doctor’s note required after the third day of absence)
Injury: resulting in temporary physical disability (Doctor’s note required)
Mental Disability: (Doctor’s note required)
Emotional Disability: (Doctor’s note required)
